Cadre names
Within {Communist parties} and {Trotskyist organisations}, {noms de guerre} are usually known as "{party names}" or "{cadre names}".
While the practice originated during the revolutionary years after WW I, {to conceal the identity of leaders}, by the {1950s and 1960s, the practice was more of a tradition than an identity-concealment strategy}. Some famous Communist Party names include {Lenin} ({Vladimir Il'ich Ulyanov}); {Stalin} ({Yosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili}); and {Pol Pot} ({Saloth Sar}).
